James is an enthusiastic percussionist/Drummer from South Wales, and having taught privately for 2 years joined the Mayzmusik teaching team in 2005.
James has been playing Drums now for over 11 years, after starting at the age of 11 with Rock Specialist "Bob Richards" and went on to achieve a 93% distinction at grade 8 level.

"Bob taught me pretty much everything I know (and still gives me tips now)!! And among others, he is one of my biggest idols in the drumming world!"

Drum students can either learn for pleasure or can follow the Rockschool Exam Syllabuses. Students will be encouraged to explore different styles of music, performing along with CD's and eventually performing with other musicians.

James plays all sorts of styles, but specialises in Rock mainly and also Jazz, as he played in a modern Jazz/Fusion band for over 5 years. James is a very active drummer, meaning that not only does he offer tuition of drums, but he also works with various local bands on a regular basis.

He currently plays with a Newport based band called "The Beavers", performing classic Rock, Blues, Rock N' Roll and soul.

As with all our lessons, James offers half hour weekly private tuition, where drummers of all ages and experience can be trained to achieve the individual goals that they want, and personalise every lesson to suit each student.

James uses 4 different kits including a 5 piece Drum World "Stage Master" in fusion style, wine red Laquer, currently undergoing service, reconditioning and recovering (another service he offers)!!!!
his pride and joy though is a Mapex "Orion" in a studio 7 Piece set up in Antique Ivory Burl Maple!!

Drum lessons are conducted on a 5 Piece Yamaha "Rydeen" kit in pearlescent Blue, (Pictured).

The 4th kit is a Digital Roland V-series TD12k electronic Drum kit. This is sometimes used during lessons for duets and Performance training for a unique interactive learning experience!

And, if that's not enough, for those with a lot left to grow, We do have a Mini Drum kit which proves ever popular with our younger students.
